Oolong Tea (Wu-Yi Tea) and Weight Loss
- Polyphenol in oolong tea is effective in controlling obesity
“Polyphenol in oolong tea is effective in controlling obesity. Specifically
speaking, it activates the enzyme that is responsible for dissolving
triglyceride. It has been confirmed that the continuous intake of oolong tea
contributes to
enhancing the function of fat metabolism and to controlling obesity.”
Oolong Tea (Wu-Yi Tea) Increases Fat Metabolism and Decreases Obesity
Scientific studies that are discussed at OolongTea.org, suggest that
laboratory tests in both animals and humans prove that Oolong tea
decreases fat cells, increases the rate of metabolism and clearly
decreases triglyceride levels and cholesterol levels in some people.
The animal study included three groups of rats. The control group of rats were fed a normal diet, while the second group of rats were fed a high-calorie diet with additional fat and water. The third group ingested the same high calorie diet with the only difference being the addition of being given Oolong tea. The two groups of rats that were given a high calorie diet gained more weight than the control group. However, scientists found that the group that was given Oolong tea had a smaller quantity of visceral and subcutaneous fat than the group that did not ingest the tea, proving that the Oolong tea prevented obesity without affecting growth.
During a clinical trial of seventy-five obese people who had become obese due to over-eating and lack of exercise, echography sensors proved that the Oolong tea decreased the thickness of subcutaneous fat after only six weeks of use.
For the individuals that had higher than standard triglycerides and cholesterol before the test, post trial testing showed that triglycerides and cholesterol levels clearly dropped in some people.
As an added benefit to the study, sixty-seven percent of people lost weight.
Between the animal study and human trials, it has been confirmed that Oolong
tea promotes fat metabolism and controls obesity.

Oolong Tea (Wu-Yi Tea) Increases Lipid & Cholesterol Excretion in Feces
A study was conducted by the International Public Health Nutrition, Graduate
School of Health Biosciences, The University of Tokushima, Tokushima Japan,
Institute for Health Care Science, Suntory Ltd, Osaka, Japan and the Department
of Food and Nutrition, Providence University, Taichung, Taiwan to determine
the the possibility of Oolong tea reducing dietary lipid absorption in
humans.
During a double-blind placebo-controlled study, twelve healthy adults were
divided into two groups. Each day, every individual was given 38 grams
of of lipids from potato chips and instructed to drink a total of 750 ml
of tea throughout three meals of the day. The control group was given a
placebo, while the other group was given polyphenol-enriched Oolong tea.
During the final days of each treatment period, samples were collected
from each individual to measure lipid excretion in the feces.
The findings of the study showed that lipid and cholesterol excretion were
higher in the group who ingested polyphenol-enriched Oolong tea.

Oolong Tea, Wu-Yi Tea Increases Energy Metabolism
Wu-Yi Yea is not only great for its weight loss benefits, it also well
known to increase energy which is turn speeds up the metabolism. This
has wonderful effects other than just weight loss. Increased metabolism
means more fat is being flushed out of the body faster along with other
harmful toxins that can promote disease and illness. Wu-Yi Tea is great
for offering energy and keeping the body clean and the metabolism functional
at optimal levels. Studies on the energy and metabolism effect from Wu-Yi
Tea have been conducted and have shown some amazing results. See below:
A Japanese study proves that Oolong tea (wu-yi tea) increases energy levels.
The study was conducted by the Department of Applied Nutrition, The University
of Tokushima School of Medicine, Tokushima, Japan, the School of Social
Health, the Fukuoka
Prefecture University, Fukuoka, Japan, Suntory Research Center, Osaka,
Japan; and the School of Food and Nutrition, Seinan Junior College, Fukuoka,
Japan.
Eleven healthy Japanese females were used in a crossover design study of
water, Oolong tea and Green tea. During the 120 minutes following the consumption
of each beverage, energy expenditure and resting energy expenditure were
measured using an indirect calorimeter. The results suggest that Oolong
tea increases energy expenditure by its polymerized polyphenols.
Oolong Tea (Wu-Yi Tea) Increases Metabolic Rate and Fat Oxidation in Men
A study was conducted to measure the fat oxidation and energy expenditure
in men who drink Oolong tea. The study did show significant increases in
energy expenditure and a twelve percent increase in fat oxidation.
The study conducted was a randomized cross over design which included twelve
men who refrained from drinking or eating any caffeinated or flavanoid
substances for a period of four days prior to the study.
Participants consumed four different beverages which included plain water,
Oolong tea, half strength Oolong tea and water which contained the equivalent
amount of caffeine found in the full strength tea. For a period of three
days, energy expenditure was measured throughout a twenty-four hour period.
The study showed that both the full strength tea and caffeinated water
significantly increased energy expenditure. The benefits of drinking the
tea included a twelve percent increase in fat oxidation from drinking the
full-strength tea, over water.
So you see Wu-Yi Tea is wonderful for the energy and metabolism levels
which in turn promotes good health.
Oolong Tea May Prevent The Risk of Heart Disease & Stroke
-“Drinking tea reduces the risk of heart attack, protects
against cancer, strengthens bones and protects against tooth plaque and
decay.” European
Journal of Clinical Nutrition
Contrary to popular belief, the small amounts of caffeine found in tea
are not dehydrating and do replace fluids throughout the body, which is
the point in drinking water. In addition to providing the same benefits
of water alone, tea also contains powerful antioxidants called polyphenols,
preventing cellular damage to the body and reduces the risk of heart attack,
protects against cancer, strengthens bones and protects against tooth plaque
and decay.
This research published in the the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition
includes studies conducted by a research team at King's College London.
The team declared that drinking tea offers equal, if not more health benefits
than drinking water alone. Essentially, tea is water in which herbs are
soaked.

Wu-Yi Tea and Cancer Prevention
Tea polyphenols may act as chemopreventive agents against gastric
and esophageal cancer development.
A study conducted by researchers at USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center
at University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, shows that
tea polyphenols have anticarcinogenic properties. The study used 18,244
men and 722 control subjects and included twelve years of follow up. The
present study provides direct evidence that tea polyphenols may act as
chemopreventive agents against gastric and esophageal cancer development.

Wu-Yi Tea (Oolong Tea) Reduce the effects of Type 2 Diabetes
-Oolong tea may be an effective adjunct to oral hypoglycemic agents in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Researchers in Miaoli, Japan conducted a study to determine the benefits of Oolong herbal tea in type 2 diabetes patients. The crossover design study which consisted of drinking Oolong tea and water for thirty days, restricted participants from drinking any herbal tea for the fourteen days prior to the study.
The twenty participants who were enrolled in the study were instructed to continue taking hyperglycemic drugs as prescribed. Study related testing indicated that the Oolong tea significantly lowered concentrations of plasma glucose and fructosamine suggesting that all natural Oolong tea may be an effective adjunct to oral hypoglycemic agents in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Oolong Tea May Protect Against Hypertension
A study showed that people who drink 120mL or more of moderate strength
green or Oolong tea per day remarkably reduces the risk of developing high
blood pressure. The one year study of 1,507 participates aged 20 years
and older with no previous history of hypertension, showed a 46% decrease
in risk of developing hypertension in those who consumed 120mL of tea each
day, compared to non-tea drinkers. Participates who consumed 600 mL or
more tea each day, further decreased their risk of hypertension by 65%.
Results were adjusted based on lifestyle, diet and traditional risk factors.
Evidence from this study indicates that long term consumption of Green
or Oolong tea may provide protective effects on hypertension risk.

Oolong Tea, Wu-Yi Tea, May Increase Bone Strength & Density
According to researchers from the National Cheng Kung University Hospital in Tainan, Taiwan, long term consumption of Oolong tea may help strengthen bones. The study included a survey and bone-mineral tests of 1,037 men and women over the age of thirty. Included in the study were drinkers of black, green and Oolong tea as well as non tea drinkers. Similar, beneficial results were reported for each type of tea - showing marked increases in benefits to tea drinkers.
The results indicated that habitual tea drinkers, drinking at least two cups of tea per day for a period of six years or more, had the highest bone density, at 2.3% higher than the non tea drinkers. The difference was even further increased in those who drank tea for a period of ten years or more with a 6.2% higher bone density than the non-tea drinkers.
The study showed no increase in bone strength or density in those who
drank tea for a period of five years or less, compared to the non-tea drinkers.

Oolong Tea To Treat Skin Disorder, Recalcitrant Atopic Dermatitis
-Polyphenols in Oolong tea may assist in the Management of Recalcitrant
Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema).
118 patients who were previously diagnosed with Recalcitrant Atopic Dermatitis
completed a study to determine the affects of Oolong tea in the treatment
of recalcitrant AD. Patients were instructed to continue with any treatment
regimen that had been previously prescribed by their physicians.
Participants were instructed to steep a 10g teabag in boiling water for five minutes and then divide the beverage into three equal servings. The patients drank three servings of tea daily, after the three main meals of the day.
Photographs of lesion sites were taken prior to the study and again at one month and six months into the study. The photographs were examined and assessed on a scale of one to six that indicated significantly improved results to worsed results.
Beneficial effects of the Oolong tea were noted in as little as one week into the study with sixty-three percent of participants showing marked to moderate improvement of recalcitrant atopic dermatitis after one month and fifty-four percent continuing to show improvement after six months.

trials to remove free radicals.
Oolong Tea, Wu-Yi Tea, Provides Anti-Aging Benefits
A scientific study was conducted to test the anti-aging benefits of drinking Oolong tea. Free radicals are responsible for many signs of aging such as wrinkles and dark spots on the skin. The study confirmed that Oolong tea enhances the bodies own reaction too free radicals and the tea also directly removes the free radicals from the body.
Throughout the study, participants would drink the tea two times per day for a period of three months. The bodies ability to react to free radicals was tested before and after drinking the study. At the end of the three month trial, the study concluded that regular consumption of Oolong tea increases the affect of an enzyme called superoxide dismutase, that is naturally produced in the body and is responsible for removing free radicals.
Additionally, the study confirmed that Oolong tea itself also removes free radicals and improves spleen and kidney weak symptoms, diagonosed in Chinese Herbalism.
Anti-Stress Effect of Oolong Tea, Wu-Yi Tea
A study was done to test the effects of a Chinese herbal tea, oolong tea on metabolism of plasma fat in mice under restraint stress. The study, conducted by the Institute for Health Care Science, Suntory Ltd, Mishima-gun, Osaka, Japan concluded that mice who ingested Oolong tea showed a significant improvement of the effects of stress by over seven and over eighteen percent.
Furthermore, the study concluded that the ability of the tea to reduce
stress were due to the natural polyphonols of the Oolong tea and didn't
depend of the caffeine in the tea.
So you see, Wu-Yi Tea is not only a great safe and natural way to lose
weight, it has enormous health benefits!
